Proper Amoxicillin Dosage in Q&A
What dosage of Amoxicillin to give 8 week old pup? Basically i got some little pups with kennel cough. I was told to pick up some fish mox, from my vet. Its after hours and I cant get ahold of them for the proper dosage. They are small yellow capsules. What suggestions do you have? Whats the proper dosage for 8 week old pups, around 10 pounds. Forgot, this is what my vet gave me. Simple: Read my question thoroughly. Its not FISH amoxicillin, its amoxi in fish appropriate tablets. Its simply amoxicillin in a capsule. OK let me clarify. I called in to my vet, he recommended the fish mox over the phone INSTEAD of coming in and paying 200 dollars for a simple vet visit. Im really glad most of the answers are mature and respectful. I simply asked a question, thanks to those who attempted to answer without bashing a single person with a group of rescued puppies. Thanks

MY NEWF IS SMARTER THAN YOU replied: "If your vet gave you FishMox, it is time to find a NEW VET!!!!! And if he didn't tell you the dosage along with it, ANOTHER reason to find a new vet!!!!! **Either you didn't get this info from your vet and you are just CHEAP, or your vet is a total idiot!!!!!!! Maybe a little of both."

pupgranny replied: "I don't think Amoxicillin works well for kennel cough. I prefer Zithromax (azthromyacin). Or at least Clavamox. Normal amoxicillin dosage is 5mg per lb so that would be 50 mg, for a 10 lb puppy, twice a day. I think the capsules you're talking about are 250 mg capsules... so that would be enough for 5 doses, one cap, or 2 capsules would be enough for 10 doses. You can mix the opened capsules with syrup, and refridgerate the mixture for a week . If your vet didn't have amoxicillin and told you to get it from a fish store, that's a bit suspicious. Especially without telling you the dosage."

theyalon1 replied: "I'd consider calling an emergency vet clinic in the area to get the dosage. I'd be horrified if I gave you dosage information and the little guys suffered a reaction. There are usually 24 hour clinics in large cities, if there aren't any nearby. They should be able to tell you. Good luck."

julie d replied: "I would call a 24 hour ER Vet and ask them, but, something smells a little "fishy" about the question. What is this suppose to do for Kennel Cough?"

Chris B replied: "Time for a new vet. Fish Mox is not prescribed for dogs."

SJC replied: "Try this link:"

Daddy's Li'l Drag Queen replied: "Your vet is the one who should be giving you this information. If it's too late to call them tonight, then call them in the morning. Missing 1 dose of antibiotics won't harm them."

Marna O replied: "Call the vet for the dosage"
