Question about fluoxetine 10mg? Hi, I've been given a prescription for fluoxetine 10mg which is the lowest starting rate, but it's up to me whether I take it or not. 10mg only comes in liquid form not tablets. a couple of questions: 1. did you find this dosage effective or was it increased for you 2. did you have many side effects 3. how terrible did it taste thanks for any genuine answers. I'm 15 btw, seeing a specialist teenage mental health doctor.

hey hey replied: "1 i found no difference so they switched it 2 no side effects 3 taste terrable?? no dont you take it with water??"

GordonBlack replied: "I'm on it too, 40mg - 10mg is just a starting point to get your body used to the drug - you'll go up from there and stay on say 20mg for a while - don't expect much to happen, if you do get any side effects they will go after a few days - when you increase you wont get them anymore. 1, No its a starting dose 2. No its one of the best AP drugs for side effects 3. No worse than paracetamel"

Simon W replied: "Most people take 20mg, people who need less take a 20mg capsule every other day, the liquid has a minty taste and it is easy to swallow. It does help with depression but can make you feel sick and ill if it does not agree with you."

Loner Girl replied: "I dont think that 10mg is even a therapeutic dose of Prozac in adults (ie. the minimum dose for the drug to be effective). In relation to your age though it's probably fine. Personally, I started on Prozac at 20mg then it was increased to 40. I experienced a few side effects when I first started the drug and when the dose was increased. These were vivid dreams, difficulty sleeping and restlessness. Anti-depressants effect everyone differently though. The only way to know how it will effect you is to try it. If you dont feel that it's helping you then you can always talk to your doctor about other options."

Grace replied: "I'm 17 now, although was 16 when I started taking fluoxetine. I started on 10mg - recommended to me as I was under 18, although I have now moved up to 20mg. I did find the 10mg dosage mildly effective, although I'd say I noticed the big changes in my mood about 2 weeks after I started taking the 20mg dose. I did notice some side effects (although my body is incredibly sensitive so I'm probably not the best person to go by). It's likely that they'll make you feel more tired than normal, this is probably the only lingering side effect you'll notice. Other short term ones i noticed include twitches, fluctuations in body temerature and nausea; these all disappeared eventually though. I can safely say that any side effects I experienced were greatly overshadowed by the miraculous effects fluoxetine had on my mood. When it was first suggested that I take them, I didn't believe that anything could really lift me out of the slump I was in, but a couple of weeks in and I felt as if I'd been given a new, brighter life. I'd happily stay on them for the rest of my life with the side effects than be depressed again. Good luck, I hope they work wonders for you =] (Oh and as for the taste, thie liquid isn't really that bad, a bit minty if I remember rightly, and you can't taste the pills)"

Apo-Fluoxetine 10mg is it possible to have insomnia? I just started Fluoxetine and Im on 10mg, its my second day...but I havent been able to sleep. Its 3:30am right now and I cant sleep (same as last night as well). Does Fluoxetine cause insomnia? Could this small dose even cause it this fast? I want to sleep *grrr* Thanks :) I wasnt sure if it would be the pills since it was so early, but the thing is that before I took the pills my sleeping was the exact opposite, it was ALL the time ????I dont know. I have an appt set kinda soon. Thanks for your answer :)

Kirsty replied: "First of all its way too early to tell as its only your second day, it takes a good 4 weeks for them to get into your system properly. I have been on them before and i didnt have any problems. It could be that your worried which is causing you not to sleep, or its just one of those nights. If your really worried pop and see your doctor, but i really dont think its that so early on in taking them. Good luck!!"

Will 10mg fluoxetine do anything? Have been taking 20mg fluoxetine for anxiety/depression for 3/4 weeks but really dizzy although have felt benefits - started taking 20mg every other day instead of every day 5 days ago and i feel brilliant - all the benefits no side effects! Is this dose doing me any good it certainly feels as though it is!

Circus replied: "No. Fluoxetine is to put now Cats. 500mg and your DEAD."

antonio_navarro23 replied: "I am not a doctor but I can tell you from experince that if you increase your prozac you will feel better. Also what you are feeling are some ofthe side effects of the med. Does your doc know that you incresed your dosage? Enjoy it it feels like your on cloud nine. If you go down on dosage be very carefull. You might feel very irratable and it may make you feel like if you werent taking your meds. Good Luck"

insane_mad_maniak replied: "i'm on 20mg of the same stuff. it should still work the same as it alters brain chemicals, doctors usually do adjust the dosage depending on the side effects."

hayleygough@ymail.com replied: "hi im not sure if the tablets will have the same effect on your body if your not taking it every day as prescribed, personally i would go back to your doctor discuss what you are doing and make sure its safe. good luck"

the_mad_oboist replied: "Go back to your doctor. They can change your dosage best or put you on something else that causes you less side effects.."

This is my 1st time on antidepressant Fluoxetine HCL 10mg 2 wks/increase 20mg. Any experiences or feedback Plz? I had a bad accident a couple of months ago, since the accident I have been unable to have a good night sleep as I have been having nightmares. Not only have I been unable to sleep, but I am having other factors in my life that are causing me to stress out. Anyways the day I went to the Dr. I was crying and telling her I just needed to have a good night sleep as I was stressing over other issues in my life. The Dr. diagnosed me with Post traumatic Stress and prescribed me Fluoxetine 10 mg for the first two week then 20mg increase after that. Im hesitant in taking the medication as I have never been on any type of antidepressant. I work with people everyday and do not want this med to interfere with my job, as I believe I may start to act weird or differently that may lead others to know I'm on some type of medication. I may be wrong and hoping to have some clarification or feedback. I'm just wondering how this may possibly affect my job. I'm also wondering if there are any serious side effects if I decide to begin the medication and suddenly stop as I may not like the side effects. please any experiences on this medication would be helpful. I understand there is information on this, but I want to hear experiences from people who have been on this medication. Another concern is do you gain weight with this medication? Thanks for reading.

girlygirl replied: "Well my brother was on it and it really helped him calm down and be like more... mellow? Because before it he'd was depressed and somewhat suicidal so this basically helped him act normal... for him it did NOT have any bad side effects other than drowsiness i believe My mom was also placed on it later for a different reason and it made her i believe the word would be giddy... it made her happy and in situations where she use to get mad she'd just shrug it off, but for her it did have side effects such as Nausea and Dizziness Everyone is different so i can't really tell you what effect it will have on you, but if the Doctor prescribed it I would take it. I think it'll help"

Is the 10mg Prozac (Fluoxetine) making me tired? I started on Flux. last week and I noticed the next day I felt slightly drowsy as if I needed a nap. Not 'oh I took a sleeping pill' tired, but kind of like I did a ton of stuff in the day and needed to rest. I wound up napping for 2 hours and was able to go back to sleep normally at night. It's been a week and tomorrow i'm supposed to up my dosage to 20.. Has anyone gotten drowsy while taking it? I mean I just started taking it, so is this possible? I asked my therapist, she said some people can get that effect. I hope it doesn't stay like that.

nicene98 replied: "Not that I am taking Prozac but I have seen patients getting drowsy from taking it. But once your system got used to it you won't feel drowsy anymore."

Daniel B replied: "You may get drowsy with it...If you do then it can go away with continued usage so don't give up on it yet. You're only on a baby dose of it so just be careful when you titirate up on the dose cause you may get the symptoms again but probably not as bad."

mrgumpy replied: "Lethargy, apathy and impaired concentration are all potential side effects of fluoxetine. They are all also symptoms of depression (for which many people start fluoxetine). Sometimes it is difficult to differentiate between a drug effect and the effect of the illness. Because you have described such a clear association between the symptoms and starting the medication, it is likely that your tiredness is due to fluoxetine. Often people taking fluoxetine find that the side effects (including tiredness) settle down over a few weeks, but some people need to stop taking it. Good luck."

deshane2530 replied: "Well I think that is what is probably causing it. I think you should of course tell your doctor and wait to up the dosage for awhile until your system gets use to it. That is my opinion"

Vanes replied: "Yes, well, a side effect of fluoxetine is fatigue but this is a transient effect, meaning it subsides withing the first or 2nd week of therapy. I don't read drowsiness as a adverse effect of this drug."

HachiMachi replied: "I took Prozac for a couple of years. I definitely remember feeling quite tired and yucky the first 3 or 4 weeks being on it. Hang in there though....it will subside. Another big side effect I struggled with was major major weight loss (I was already really skinny). However, some folks might be fine with that. Just to let you know. Good luck. The medicine does work."

wantbehappy replied: "I'm on Prozac as well I'm in my second week at taking it and I'm feeling the same, I have taken this drug before and it does go away. Its worth the wait hang in there"

Is there ANY WAY to PREVENT hair loss from taking Fluoxetine (Prozac) 10MG and clonazepam (5mg)?? I am failing the semester because the stress is ruining my life. I was loosing control of my emotons, self awareness, my sexual drive and I could not concentrate. I started taking it today for the FRIST TIME. I don't want to loose my hair like I did my first time. It fell out, but at that time I was taking something else. I only need it for one month. I need to do great on my final exams. Prozac makes me sleepy, so how can I get work done I hate my college. It doesn't have what I am looking for. Some of my classes are uninteresting. I use to be on top of everything. Nowadays, extremely forgetful. A change would be nice. Mmm. Anyway, please answer my question. SHOULD I DOUBLE TRIPLE UP ON MY INTAKE OF PROTEIN, VITAMIN A, NUTS, MEAT, EGGS, DIARY??

prettyparadoxal 1 replied: "no it is a side effect and you psychiatrist will have to take you off of it as they did for me as well"

gotta luv da Li replied: "Doctors don't put ppl on prozac for just one month. Stop self-medicating and see a doc. Yes, eat healthy."

Why is the maximum dosage of fluoxetine 80mg? Everywhere gives descriptions of the side effects when fluoxetine is taken normally, ie 10mg up to 80mg, but nowhere tells you what happens if you take more than that, why cant a higher dose be prescribed?

~Stormy~ replied: "It's not that it "can't" be given out at higher doses in most cases,as much as understanding that all these drugs(any drug)has been tested, went through drug-trials BEFORE hitting the market,so based on those drug trials, the FDA generally sets a "standard" so to speak,on what has proven to be the "most effective" doses,or what has proven to cause more side-effects with that paticular drug at "X" dose. It's all about consumer safety as the FDA sees fit(based on the trial of that drug)."

TobyF replied: "All drugs are poisons. When taken in small doses instead of killing you they have some other effect that is beneficial. (They may also have other non-beneficial effects that are deemed to be side effects.) During research into a drug it is determined how poisonous it is, and then dosages are set with a suitable safety margin. It is important to stick to the dosage your doctor has prescribed. You should not change dosage or stop using medication without consulting a doctor or pharmacist first. Being careful with dosages of drugs also applies to medication obtained without prescription, e.g. painkillers. Always check the dosage instructions. Paracetamol is a component of many cold and flu cures so be careful if you are taking more than one product not to exceed the safe limit."

Doctors pls tell what r this tabs use for FLUOXETINE UPS 20MG & ESCITALOPRAM OXALATE 10MG ? Well I've been given this tabs by a DR but the doctor I consultant she didn't listen to my problems properly so i want to know what this tabs in detail and pls let me also know if i can take alcohol with it

futuredoc replied: "Fluoxitine is just generic prozac, used to treat depression and anxiety. Should you take alcohol with it? No, but I do, lol. They say it has a change of making you drowsy, but I've never had the problem!"

notparis replied: "If you simply search the drug names you will get your answers. Both of these drugs are SSRI. Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors. Essentially these drugs limit the re uptake of the chemical manufactured by your brain called Serotonin. They are both used to to treat clinical depression, anxiety, and other mental disorders. Are you taking them at the same time together or did she give you just one of these? It is advised that you do not drink alcohol with these drugs, they can cause drowsiness, and may increase the symptoms that got you on these drugs in the first place. You can also increase your chances of serotonin toxicity which can be fatal."
