Accutane rules? Information? Okay so can someone just give me ANY information about accutane that you know? i know it makes your skind dry, lips dry, you cant get pregnant or you can have birth defects, you get sunburn. Okay so i really just want to know what i CAN'T do while im on accutane? i dont even know if i am going to take it, but i have been hearing so much about it that i think i want to. ALSO does it work for body acne?

Katherine W replied: "Accutane works because it essentially shuts off the oil production for your whole body: bacteria feed off oil to make acne, so no oil = no acne. It will work for body acne. It works if nothing else has, but you should try everything else first. It will make your skin so dry you won't believe it, but that improves once you stop. You have to use moisterizer all the time: I got a rash from where my winter coat sleeves hit my wrists, that's how dry my skin was. It's not just that you can't get pregnant -- you have to get a pregnancy test before starting it, and you have to promise to use two methods of birth control, and basically you would have to have an abortion if you got pregnant. I was celibate when I went on Accutane. You do also have to watch out for depression on Accutane, although that didn't happen to me. It will work when nothing else works. It's very expensive but worth it if nothing else works. I would recommend it if you're mature enough to follow all the regulations."

makeup-put it all on me replied: "it works for body acne-it works for acne everywhere-the reason you get so dry when you're on it is b/c it poisons the oil glands so you stop making oil therefor no acne. here's a girl who talks about it and has used it :)"

Ashley replied: "i was recently doing some research on it and found out that, yes it does work for body acne and it permanently gets rid of it withing 3-6 months and also that if you use vacaline on your lips and cetephil body lotion that it really helps when your skin drys out, other than that i havent heard much about the other things you mentioned"

Jammy replied: "I've had acne for 11 years (since the age of 10)...and nothing has got rid of it. Its actually gone worse as i've grown up into young adulthood...thus i thought i'd give roaccutane a try. I got referred to a dermatologist and im still waiting to receive an appointment...the wait is agonizing. I know the side effects but i cant take it no more. My acne is BAD... i have body acne too. My advice is don't drink...(im a complete teetotal, so that doesn't affect me at all), use suncream, use vaseline, eat healthily as cholesterol level rises and report any unexpected occurrence to your doc."

What do you wish you knew before taking Accutane? I always ruled out accutane as an option for acne treatment. I am now 30 years old and it's only getting worse. I want to try accutane but am still very worried of the possible side effects. Has anyone tried it and regretted it? How long do you have to take it? One month? 6?

Sheila replied: "I have a teenage son that took it. Looking back we should have had him take it sooner. I look at photos of him then and it (acne) was truly horrible. He had no problems while taking it (took for 6 months) and 3 years later, still, is a happier, acne free guy. I think it also helped with his self esteem, and it did make his face look 200% better. He did go thru alot of lip balm. PS Our health insurance at first wanted to make us pay a very high co-pay, but there is now a generic and I think we eneded up only having to pay like $48 per month. Actual acutane is like $190 a month, if you have to buy it."

Rebecca J replied: "I took it for a for a while and thought it worked wonders on my face. However, not too long after that my eyes became too dry for me to wear contacts anymore. But I don't regret it at all."

jannsody replied: "I read on here a few weeks ago that it gave an accutane user diabetes! It's great that you are questioning the side effects. I wonder if you have tried topicals such as retin-a for a lengthy period of time or differin. Accutane they say is supposed to be a very powerful medication and it's so powerful, that those who have taken it are Not able to get a cosmetic procedure such as dermabrasion until about a year after they have stopped it. I hope that you find a regimen that works. I've never used this one, but Dr. Patricia Wexler, a board-certified dermatologist, has a regimen for those with acne and her products are at Bath and Body Works and can get it off of QVC shopping station: Some of her products can be tested by customers at BBW's. I actually tried the skin brightening cream with spf (sun protection factor) for my hyperpigmentation though unfortunately, it had a light 'fragrance' but I'm allergic to basically everything so that I couldn't continue. I would, however, try her other products."

RobinGD replied: "I started taking it when it first came out in the early 80's, I was 18. I don't know if they have changed it since then, but I took it for 3 or 4 months, and the worst part was the cracked lips and dry skin. But I don't regret taking it at all. You didn't say if you are male or female, but if you are a woman, you must make sure you use reliable birth control, because it can cause birth defects."
